Tips and Tricks for Spring Cleaning

Spring cleaning- It is that perfect time of year to freshen up your living quarters with a deep thorough cleaning from top to bottom. But first, it is time to get in the right mindset because this can be a big undertaking for many of us. We recommend planning well in advance so that you will have minimal interruptions. Next, put on a great playlist and gather all the cleaning supplies you will need. A great way to keep you cleaning supplies contained is to place them in in a bucket. We love this galvanized bucket from Lowe’s . We simply place everything we will need like cloths, sponges, paper towels and cleaning products. In a quest to use less chemicals, we have gravitated towards cleaning products from Mrs. Meyers, which you can pick up at Whole Foods Market. These come in a variety of fresh and natural scents so your home never has to have the synthetic smell but rather smells much like a garden.

While you are in the cleaning spirit, it is a great opportunity to purge your home of all the unwanted stuff. Start by getting two boxes and labeling them “TRASH” and “DONATE.” If you are already a disciple of Marie Kondo and The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing, then this task will be therapeutic. If not, don’t fret, just follow these simple rules:

  1. Trash anything that is broken or in bad shape.
  2. Ask yourself if you truly using something or is it just taking up space.
  3. Have you worn a clothing item in the past year?
  4. Donate gently used items and clothing to local shelter. You will be purging your home and making a difference in someone’s life.

Other items that you might find useful during your spring cleaning ritual are the Shark Ion X40 Ultra-Light Stick Vacuum Cleaner from Belk. This little powerhouse can pick up the finest dust just as easy as larger debris from your floors and carpets. We also found some natural fiber storage bins from Lowe’s that are as useful as they are pleasing to look at

And just to make things even easier for you. We created a checklist to follow just to make sure your entire home is fresh and clean from top to bottom. Plus, we all love to check things off a list as we go!

Now that you are finished, do not forget to reward yourself. Our favorite way to say job well done is to light our favorite candle from Southern Living, Park Hill Collection’s Sweet Tea, joy a glass of red wine, and breathe in that fresh clean smell!
