Stand Up to Breast CancerOctober 7, 2020
Chances are that you have been affected in some shape or form by breast cancer. It could be a loved one that is battling this dreadful disease or your personal fight with breast cancer. The awful truth is that breast cancer is the most common cancer among American women except for skin cancers according to the American Cancer Society. Think about it this way- 1 in 8 American women will develop breast cancer. The good news is that with increased awareness and early detection, people can survive and lead a normal healthy life.
Fort Walton Beach Medical Center (FWBMC) and Twin Cities Hospital created the annual Stand Up to Breast Cancer event 7 years ago to honor area breast cancer survivors and to help raise awareness. In place of the Stand Up to Breast Cancer event, the 2 hospitals have chosen 14 courageous breast cancer survivors to celebrate during the month of October. We urge you to read each of the journeys that these courageous 14 women have been on. The honorees will be celebrated at the 2021 Stand Up to Breast Cancer event.
Destin Commons, along with Fort Walton Beach Chamber of Commerce, is proud to stand by the valiant efforts made by the medical community in their commitment to treat breast cancer patients, honor those individuals currently fighting, honor the survivors, and remember the ones who lost their lives. They serve as a source of inspiration, strength, and courage!
