Experience Art Through Sand

This summer, the beach is coming to Destin Commons. Playing on our area’s beautiful beaches, Destin Commins will have on display three one-of-a-kind sand sculptures created by Rick Mungeam. 12-year sand sculpting professional, Mungeum will use 8 tons of sand per sculpture and water to create these magical works of art.

The first sculpture is a representation of the Destin Commons while the following two sandcastles represent two local partners, Little Adventures by the Tourism Development Department (TDD) of Destin-Fort Walton Beach and the Gulfarium. Gulfarium Marine Adventure Park, since its opening in 1955, has been dedicated to sharing its mission of educating, entertaining, and inspiring guests to respect and preserve wildlife by providing unique and memorable experiences for visitors of all ages to connect with marine life.

In 2015, the C.A.R.E. CARE | ACT | REHABILITATE | EDUCATE Center was developed as a non-profit to facilitate and further our continued coastal conservation efforts. C.A.R.E. has helped to rehabilitate and release various species of sea turtles found in our coastal waters from the Loggerhead, Green, Kemp’s ridley, to the Leatherback.

Little Adventures are bite-sized adventures for the whole family in Destin-Fort Walton Beach. Families can explore a collection of expertly curated adventures by locals and build an itinerary that best suits their children’s ages, skillset and interests.

Kids as young as one can enjoy an afternoon splashing and discovering wildlife in crystal clear tidepools. Budding marine biologists will find themselves an arm’s reach away from marine life on, and in some instances under the water.

Teens can chart a course of exploration via kayak or challenge themselves to take a lesson out on the water and leave with a new skill.
