Play Host to a Backyard Cocktail and BBQ BashJune 6, 2019
Whether you have the beach in your backyard (lucky you) or have simply dusted off the patio furniture on your back deck, summer is here and that means that it is time for BBQ parties. We have gathered up a few of our favorite cocktail recipes, some great party tips, and recipes that will have your friends asking when the next gathering is.
The first thing needed at any Backyard Party are cocktails. We have found 3 recipes that are crowd pleasers and most of the ingredients can be found at Whole Foods Market.
Party Pleasing Sangria- This refreshing cocktail is simple to whip up and has all the beautiful colors of summers.
|o 2 bottles of dry white wine||o ¼ cup of brandy|
|o 1 tablesppon fresh lemon juice||o ¼ cup of sugar|
|o 1 cup sliced strawberries||o 1 ½ cups sliced peaches|
|o 1 cup halved seedless grapes||o Sliced banana|
Directions: Combine the wine, brandy, lemon juice, and sugar in a large pitcher. Stir until all of the sugar is dissolved. Next, add the peaches, strawberries, and grapes. Let chill at least 2 hours. Before serving, add in banana. Pour into ice filled glasses and don’t forget to spoon some of the wine soaked fruit into each glass. Delicious!
Classic Mai Tai- Nothing says summer like dark rum and fruit, and that is why we turn to this classic tropical cocktail each summer.
|o ¼ cup pineapple juice||o 2 tablespoons white rum|
|o 1 ½ tablespoons fresh lime juice||o 1 tablespoon dry orange Curaçao|
|o 1 tablespoon orgeat syrup||o 1 teaspoon maraschino cherry juice|
|o 1 tablespoon dark rum||o Mint sprig, maraschino cherry, pinapple slice for serving|
Directions: Combine pineapple juice, white rum, lime juice, Curaçao, orgeat, and cherry juice in a cocktail shaker. Fill shaker with ice and shake vigorously. Strain into ice filled glasses. Top the cocktail with dark rum and garnish with mint, cherry, and pineapple slice.
Bay Breeze- This sister of the well known Sea Breeze cocktail is perfect for those hot Florida days!
|o 3 ounces cranberry juice||o 1 ½ ounces coconut rum|
|o 2 ounces pineapple juice||o Lime wedge for garnish|
Directions: Combine cranberry juice, coconut rum, and pineapple juice. Pour over ice and garnish with a lime wedge.
Now that cocktails are served, it time to move on to a couple of easy, quick, and scrumptious appetizers, plus a a burger bar that even the toughest critcs will love!
|o 8 ounces bacon||o 20 shrimp, shelled and deveined|
|o ½ cup BBQ sauce||o ¼ cup canola oil|
|o 3 tablespoons chipotle pepper in adabo||o 3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice|
|o 1 tablespoons Dijon mustard||o ½ teaspoon red chile flakes|
|o ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper||o ¼ teaspooon cayenne pepper|
Directions: Soak bamboo skewers in water to keep from burning during grilling. Partially cook the bacon and then cut in half and cool on paper towels. Wrap the bacon around the shrimp, and skewer with bamboo through the point where the bacon ends meet. Skewer 3 to 5 shrimp per bamboo skewer. Next, combine the BBQ sauce, canola oil, lemon juice, Dijon mustard, red chile flakes, black pepper, and cayenne peppr in a blender and puree. Divide the sauce in half, one for basting and the other for dipping. Grill the bacon wrapped shrimp over medium heat. When the shrimp begins to turn pink, begin basting with the chipotle sauce. Serve the remaining chipotle sauce on the side for dipping. YUM!
Fruit Salad Cones

Directions: Take a melon baller and ball the watermelon, cantelope, and honey dew into small bites. Combine melon with sliced strawberries and blueberries. Put a cupcake liner into each ice cream cone to keep the cone from getting soggy. Fill with fruit and garnish with mint. Healthy, refreshing, and adorable!
Let your imagination take flight and think of anything and everything that your guests might want on a burger. Now is the time to put the finishing touches on the bash. We recommend having plenty of water, beer, and sweet tea on hand as well. And since we live in Florida, you are sure to have plenty of sun and some unwanted guests (mosquitos). We love this idea of staking metal buckets and filling them with suncreen and bug spray. Trust us, your guests will be most appreciative!
