Coins For A Cause donates to Youth VillageMay 13, 2016
Destin Commons recently made a $1,500 donation to Youth Village, a non-profit which provides various educational and recreational services to children in our community, in order to provide scholarships to deserving children in the community.
Below are the 2 children who will be receiving the Coins for a Cause scholarship donation:
1. Khameela, age 9, 3rd grade: Khameela wants to be an actress when she grows up because “it calms me when I act and helps me to create different characters in my mind like in fairy tales. I also like to dress up in costumes”.
2. Amanda, age 12, 7th grade. Amanda wants to be a doctor. She loves to help people whenever and wherever she can. Amanda has asthma, MANY food allergies as well as being allergic to cats and dogs. Amanda wants to be a doctor because she said that she wants to help people like her so that other children won’t have to suffer with “asthma and other stuff”.
Amanda and Khameela are sisters and their mother passed away about 4 years ago from complications from asthma. They also have a third sister named Gabriella (age 14) and a brother named Khalid (age 18) at home. They all live with their single dad. We’re going to let Gabrielle attend our summer camp even though we do not have a designated scholarship for her.
The donation was made through Destin Commons’ Coins For A Cause program which was created to help benefit local charities with the monies collected from the center’s parking meters. It’s a win-win because shoppers can enjoy the convenience of parking right in front of the stores, while local charities enjoy the benefit of donations made to their respective causes related to issues such as health, disabilities, education, the arts and children’s well-being. Coins For A Cause has donated over $1 million to area charities since its inception 10 years ago.
