$1,500 Coins For A Cause donation benefits special needs Little League teamMarch 23, 2017
Destin, FL (March 15, 2017)…Destin Commons’ Coins For A Cause initiative that provides funds to area charities has stepped up once again to donate $1,500 to a special needs Little League team called Challenger League Baseball.
In a league that depends on their sponsor contributions, the Challenger Division was established nationally in 1989 as a separate division of Little League to enable boys and girls with physical and mental challenges, ages 4 up to 22, to enjoy the game of baseball along with the millions of other children who participate in this sport worldwide. Locally, in 2005, Ronald and Diane Covey founded the Challenger Baseball League in Niceville, FL.
Playing at Rarick Field, across the street from Edge Elementary, they play two innings with every team member getting the opportunity to participate. Their opening game will be played at 4 p.m. on March 25th. For further information, visit www.ChallengerLeagueBaseball.com.
The $1,500 donation was made through Destin Commons’ Coins For A Cause program which was created to help benefit local charities with the monies collected from the Center’s parking meters. The monies the Center donates focuses on local charities dealing with health, disabilities, education, the arts and children’s well-being.
Heather Pike, Destin Commons’ marketing manager, said, “As we like to say, changing lives one coin at a time best describes our parking meter program. It is wonderful that the Challenger League Baseball organization gives special needs children the opportunity to come together to play ball.”
