Building Homes For Heroes wins double victory at Destin Commons’ 5th Annual Smoke on the Coast BBQ & Fireworks FestivalDestin, FL (July 5, 2015)…The 5th Annual Smoke on the Coast BBQ & Fireworks Festival at Destin Commons was an energy-filled happening for the community with 15,000+ attending to sample delicious BBQ from over twenty area vendors and enjoy live entertainment, kid’s activities and spectacular Independence Day fireworks over the Center’s skyline.
The big news of the night was the announcement of both the Judge’s Pick BBQ winners and the People’s Choice winners. With only 64 votes separating the top two, an impressive 20,000 People’s Choice votes were cast with the #1 winner being Building Homes for Heroes, and ValleyCrest Landscape Companies coming in at a close #2.
This year a panel of 3 judges consisting of Destin Log Editor Matt Algarin, WEAR-TV reporter Rob Brown and Q92 radio DJ Chelsea Nightly, sampled all the contender’s BBQ dishes. Winning their second victory of the night, Building Homes For Heroes was named the 1st place Judge’s Pick winner, followed by Outback Steakhouse in 2nd place, and Rollin’ Smoke BBQ coming in as the 3rd place winner. Rollin’ Smoke BBQ will open their new restaurant in mid-July in Destin Commons near the children’s playground area.
Benefitting charities, collectively receiving $25,000 through proceeds from Smoke on the Coast and Destin Commons’ Coins For A Cause, were Building Homes For Heroes, Children in Crisis and Food For Thought.
