Celebrating WomenMarch 8, 2021
In 1987, March officially became recognized as National Women’s History Month. Women have long played an instrumental role in world events yet given very little credit. Why? Well, this is due mainly to the fact that men wrote the historical records and omitted giving credit. This is not to bash history but to celebrate that things are changing. Every woman has her unique stories and talents to share with the world. During the month of March, let’s celebrate women that enrich our lives. The simple truth is that women are amazing!
Several strong and fearless female entrepreneurs line our streets right here at Destin Commons. Are you wondering which stores we are referring to? Just keeping reading and we will share where you can find these inspirational ladies.
Bella Vita Boutique
Meet the mother-daughter team of Kay and Layla, the owner of Bella Vita Boutique. Step inside their store and you are in for a multi-cultural treat. This stylish boutique features ethically sourced clothing, accessories, and original art from artisans and artists in the US and all around the world.
Deep Sea Gypsy
Next, step into Deep Sea Gypsy, and you are immediately intrigued by its bohemian feel. Munika Karimova, the owner of Deep Sea Gypsy, loves sharing her Uzbekistan culture with guests. At Deep Sea Gypsy, you will find gorgeous crystal and gemstone jewelry or try out matching your astrological profile to crystals. Munika also offers Natural Traditional Henna!
Klara Haloho opened her doors at Destin Commons in June of 2020 after returning to our beloved Emerald Coast. She offers handcrafted elegant jewelry for everyday wear. Klara proudly crafts all her store items, including leather and pearl jewelry, Balinese silver bracelets, and silk accessories. Born and raised on an island of Indonesia, she is attracted to colorful cultures, particularly that of Bali.

Sara Pestella is a force to be reckoned with. She opened Level 10 Salon in February 2020, and it has quickly become a favorite among women and men. One step inside Lizard Thicket and you know you are ready for some fun. Casey Johnston, owner of the Lizard Thicket at Destin Commons, invites guests to shop fashion-forward styles and accessories at prices that will bring a smile to your face. If you love something be sure to snatch it up. They only carry a limited quantity of each piece so you can rest assure that you will not see the same piece on every other person. Casey also believes in supporting local non-profits. The first Wednesday of every month is We Give Wednesday at Lizard Thicket. 10% of all sales on that day go directly to the Emerald Coast Children’s Advocacy Center. Shopping while helping others is a win-win!
Finally but certainly not least, is Gulia Metcalf, owner of Pink-n-Blue Avenue. This dynamic lady is the owner of Pink-n-Blue Avenue, a children’s boutique that offers the sweetest clothes, shoes, and toys for children. This is truly a destination store for people that want items that are unique and hard to find.
Let’s continue to celebrate women that we are lucky enough to count among our family at Destin Commons. They are blazing a trail and serving as an inspiration to all that meet them.
