Celebrate Earth Day by Dressing with Your Conscious
April 19, 2019In celebration of Earth Day, we begin to evaluate the choices we make and how they affect the environment. Everything, from the plastic bottles we drink out of, to the straws in every cup, to the very clothes on our back, leaves a footprint on our earth. Now is the time to think about these choices and can we make better decisions? The answer is yes!
Companies, like Lush Fresh Homemade Cosmetics already offer bottle-less shampoo to help lessen the impact of plastic, but did know that you can help the environment through your wardrobe too? H&M recently launched their Conscious Collection, which offers clothes made from sustainably sourced material and/or with sustainable methods. In the past, you would have to explore online specialty manufacturers where the prices of sustainably made clothing would deter you from clicking through to purchase. You wanted to do better, but the price was always the factor. Now here comes H&M with a sustainable collection while doing what they do best: offering you quality at an affordable price. The Conscious Collection is made up of dreamy and romantic styles in neutral and earthy hues. Even the advertising of the Conscious Collection is inspirational by using women, like Rosario Dawson, that strive to make a difference.
We pulled a small sampling of pieces from the collection that make us swoon.

H&M has also launched The Garment Collection Program. All you have to do is drop off your unwanted clothing in the recycling box at H&M and they will send the items to a recycling plant where everything is hand sorted. It does not matter the brand or condition of the articles of clothing you drop off. Pieces of clothing that can be worn again are marketed as second hand goods while goods that are no longer suitable to wear can be converted into other products or recycled. An added bonus is that for every bag that you drop off, you will receive a 15% discount on your next in-store purchase. Definitely a win-win!
Everything But Water, the largest specialty swimwear and resortwear retailer in the US, is also joining the sustainable material cause. One year ago, Everything But Water launched their Water is Everything initiative which is a program that supports ocean conservation. Being a coastal community, this is an initiative that is near and dear to us all. And beginning on Earth Day, Everything But Water will be displaying only sustainable swimwear looks. These swimwear looks were created for Everything But Water from mostly new designers working with sustainable fabrics. Adorable and eco-friendly and we love all of the positive impacts that Everything But Water is making to ocean conservation.
As citizens of the world, it is our responsibility to take care of it for future generations. We urge you to look for ways that you can help, whether it is beach cleanup, planting trees, recycling, or greening your wardrobe. Every little step we take individually is compounded when we act globally!
