Beach Bag Essentials

Summer has finally arrived and that means days spent lounging and playing at the beach! Given that we are lucky enough to live at the beach here in Destin, it is essential that we have a beach bag stocked and ready for most days. Even if you do not live here, we are happy to share our tips for being beach ready.

1. Beach Bag

Beach bags are a very personal thing. Some people like a solid color while others prefer a great print. But there are a couple of elements that any beach bag should have. A great beach bag needs to be spacious so that you can fit all your beach essentials and it needs to be easy to clean after a day at the beach. Pick up the popular Bogg Bag at Pink-n-Blue Avenue and Southern Living is now offering the sturdy and lightweight Scout line. More of a boho kind of girl? Then try out the Maaji Hobo Bag at Innerlight Surf Shop. And you can never go wrong with a classic straw tote from H&M.

2. Beach Towel

We have found the gold standard of beach towels. These microfiber towels by The Royal Standard thin and lightweight so that they are easy to pack, are super absorbent so that you dry off quicker, are oversized, and they dry much faster than a standard beach towel. Plus, the vibrant designs are adorable. You can find these little gems at Southern Living!

3. Sunscreen

Is there anything worse than a sunburn? With our sugar-white sand and the powerful rays of the sun, it is very easy to get a burn. So, your number one beach bag essential should always be SUNSCREEN! There are so many options out there to protect your skin, hair, and lips. We have visited Sephora, Innerlight Surf Shop, and Maui Nix Surf Shop to check out the latest in sun protection. We love the entire Sun Bum line and the offering is vast. The Bum Bum Sol Oil from Sol de Janeiro smells divine and the Moroccanoil Sun Lotion SPF 50 is lightweight while hydrating and nourishing the skin. Definitely, a beach bag staple!

4. Hats and Sunglasses

Now that you have sunscreen sorted, you should also bring along a hat and sunglasses to aid in sun protection. Along with sun care products are also physical accessories you can wear for sun protection. A great pair of polarized sunglasses from Sunglass World or The Eye Gallery will help protect your eyes while also letting you take in the breathtaking views of the Gulf. Any type of hat will help give extra protection from the sun. Hats can range from a baseball hat, visor, or a sizeable floppy hat. We found great selections at Innerlight Surf Shop, Lizard Thicket, and Coastal Outfitters.

5. Cover Ups

A great cover-up is a finishing touch to your beach ensemble. Not only are they stylish but they also offer additional sun protection which is always a win-win. But in addition to the added sun protection, cover-ups are extremely useful. When you are walking along the beach or even up to your condo/hotel, you might want a little more coverage than just your bathing suit and a cover-up gives you just enough coverage to feel comfortable. We found some great options at H&M and Maui Nix Surf Shop.

6. A Great Beach Read

Now all you need is a great book and your beach bag is stocked and ready to go. While visiting the seaside, many find it the perfect time to enjoy some pleasure reading. Be sure to stop by Books-a-Million and pick up a couple of books that you have been wanting to read for ages. This is your time!

We hope that we have given you some inspiration for your upcoming days at the beach. Now that your beach bag is stock, get out there and enjoy the beautiful beaches of Destin!
